How do you assess IELTS writing task 1?
IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1 ASSESSMENT / SCORING CRITERIA
#Overview of the task
In GENERAL Writing Task 1, you will be given a situation, and you will have to respond to it by writing a letter. You have to write either a formal letter or an informal one, according to the question. Formal letters are usually written to institutions, people in authority, or people you do not know. Informal letters are written to your loved ones, friends, and family.
The word limit for this task is 150 words. The time allotted for the job is 20 minutes.
#Assessment and Marking Criteria for General Writing Task 1
You will be assessed on four criteria, each having a weightage of 25%. The criteria are as follows:

Task Achievements
Your ability to respond to all the aspects is tested. The information and overall content are reviewed. The word limit, which is 150 words, is also considered—failing to meet the word limit results in a deduction of marks.

Coherence and Cohesion
Your skill to logically organize the information and divide it into sufficient paragraphs is tested. The letter should be well-structured and have a logical progression of thoughts.

Lexical Resources
The use of a range of vocabulary is taken into consideration. It would help if you wrote the spellings and collocation correctly.

Grammatical Range and accuracy
The sentence structure, proper use of tense, and punctuations are examined while scoring this criterion.

#How to score better in the IELTS General Writing Task 1?

Address all the requirements in the question.

Write specific details and not a generalized idea.

Aim for 150-180 worded letter.

Divide your letter into 4 or 5 paragraphs.

Have a logical thought progression throughout the letter.
