IELTS Listening Multiple Choice Questions
IELTS Listening Test assesses your ability to listen and comprehend what is being said. The Test has four sections, each with increasing difficulty levels. There are several types of questions in the area, one of them being the Multiple Choice Question.
Multiple Choice Questions are usually asked in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th section. You will be given a question, and usually, three choices will be provided. You have to choose the correct one.
#Essential tips to remember while answering the Multiple Choice Question
-
Do not write the first word you hear. Avoid writing answers in a hurry. Students often write the answer before listening to the whole audio. Write the answer only after listening to the entire audio to avoid silly mistakes.
-
Answers do not appear in order. For other question types, the answers usually appear in order but not for Multiple Choice questions.
-
It will help if you read the questions as well as the options while listening to the audio.
-
Avoid spending too much time on one question.
-
Do not leave a question blank. Try and answer all the questions. If you are stuck at a particular question, it's okay to make a guess.

#Useful strategies for solving the IELTS Multiple Choice Question
-
Read the question
You will have a little time before the audio play. Utilize this time to go through the questions and the answer options.
2. Highlight the keywords in the question.
Read the question and mark the keywords in it. You can take hints from the keywords to choose the correct option.
3. Think of possible synonyms and paraphrases
In the recording, you will hear all the words listed in the options. Your task is to identify which fits the correct answer. Try to match the meanings and not the exact words. The speaker will usually paraphrase or use synonyms in the audio.
4. Be aware of distractors.
Words like "but, " "however," are called distractors. They change the meaning of the previous sentences.
5. Predict the answer
In some questions, you will be able to predict the answer even before listening to the audio. However, please do not write it immediately; listen to the complete audio before finalizing the answer.
6. Transfer the answers accurately.
You will be given 10 minutes at the end of the Test to transfer your answers. Usually, you will be asked to write the letter and not the word of the correct answer. You should write 'A,' or 'B' instead of the word.
