IELTS Reading True False Not Given

In the IELTS Reading section, True/False/Not Given (TFNG) require test-takers to determine if statements provided are true, false, or not given based on the information presented in the passage. Mastering TFNG questions is essential for achieving a high score in the IELTS Reading section.

Understanding True/False/Not Given Questions:

  • True: The statement matches the information in the passage.
  • False: The statement contradicts the information in the passage.
  • Not Given: The passage does not contain enough information to confirm or deny the statement.

You will be presented with a list of factual statements in the True, False, Not Given question. After reading the text, you will have to identify whether the statements are True, False, or not given. If the facts are presented as they are, the statement is true. If the information in the text contradicts the statement given, then it is false. If no accurate information is provided about the statement in the text, you are supposed to mark it as Not Given.

Skills required to solve the True, False, Not Given question.

·        The ability to read the text and understand the meaning

·        The ability to comprehend the statements and fill in the correct answers.

Common Concerns:

  1. Misinterpretation of Information: Test-takers may misinterpret information, leading to incorrect answers.
  2. Trick Statements: Some statements may appear true but are subtly false, requiring careful attention to detail.
  3. Time Management: TFNG questions can be time-consuming, so effective time management is crucial.

Essential tips to solve the True, False, Not Given Question in the IELTS Test.

·        Read each statement carefully and make sure you understand what is being started.

·        After reading the statements, mark the possible keywords.

·        The answers follow a particular order. When you find the answer to the first question, the next will follow.

·        Do not spend unnecessary time on one question. If you find a particular question difficult to answer, make a calculated guess, and move on to the next one.

Strategies for Tackling TFNG Questions:

  1. Read the Questions Carefully: Pay close attention to the statements provided and understand what is being asked.
  2. Scan the Passage: Quickly scan the passage to locate relevant information related to the statements.
  3. Look for Keywords: Identify keywords in the statements and search for their counterparts in the passage.
  4. Focus on Specific Details: Pay attention to specific details, such as names, dates, and numbers, to verify the accuracy of statements.
  5. Be Mindful of Synonyms: Statements may use synonyms or paraphrases of words/phrases from the passage. Look out for the paraphrases. The text will have a lot of paraphrases in the text instead of the exact words.
  6. Do not blindly match the words: Keep in mind that the aim is to match the meaning of the statement and not the exact words.
  7. Eliminate False Information: If a statement contradicts information in the passage, it is false.
  8. The statements are True only if the meaning in the text is the same and not similar. The examiners can trick you by using words such as always, often, occasionally.
