#Overview of General writing Task 2
The general writing task requires you to write an essay not less than 250 words in 40 minutes. It is essential to write the essay in a formal style.
You will be given a statement, which will be on a general topic. The question will state a specific problem, an argument, or a point of view. You are required to respond to the statement by writing an essay.
You can be tested on any of the popular types: a)Opinion Essay, b) Discussion Essay, c) Problem Solution Essay, d) Advantages and Disadvantages Essay, e)Double Question Essay.
The General Writing Task 2 is very similar to IELTS Academic Writing Tak2, the only difference being that the topics given in the General Writing Tasks are relatively simpler.
How is IELTS General Writing Task 2 assessed and marked?
To score well in General Writing Task 2, your essay must fulfill the task's requirement; it should be well structured. The content must be coherent and cohesive.
#You will be assessed and marked on the following criteria.

Task response: All the requirements of the task must be addressed.

Cohesion and Coherence: The essay should be divided into well-planned paragraphs, which should be logically connected.

Lexical Resources: A wide range of vocabulary should be used in the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: The essay should be grammatically correct. A range of grammar forms should be used.

Opinion Essay: in this essay type, you will be given a statement and asked to express your opinion. You have to write in agreement or disagreement with the statement.

Discussion Essay: in the Discussion essay, there will be two opposing statements given; you have to discuss them and give your opinion.

Problem Essays (cause and solution): as the name suggests, you will be given a problem. You are required to write the possible causes and the solutions to them. Sometimes, you have to write only the causes or solutions.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Essays: you must have guessed it; under this question type, the question will state a general statement. Your task is to respond to it by writing the advantages or disadvantages.

Double/Direct Question Essays: you will be given a statement with two different questions. You have to respond to both questions effectively.
