IELTS General Writing Task 1 Tips and Strategies
In General Writing Task 1, you will be given a situation, and your task is to respond to it by writing a letter not less than 150 words. The letter can be formal, semi-formal, or informal, depending upon the question. The time allotted for this question is 20 minutes .

Identify the type of letter. It is essential to identify the kind of letter you are asked to write. Identify the keywords in the question and determine whether you have to write a formal letter, semi-formal letter, or an informal letter.

Identify the purpose of the letter. Determine whether you have to write a request letter, a complaint letter, an invitation, etc.

Adhere to the word limit. The set word limit for the task is 150 words. Failing to meet the word limit will result in a deduction of marks. You should aim for 160-180 words for your letter.

Check for grammar and vocabulary. You will be marked on your grammar and use of a range of vocabulary. The style of writing while attempting the formal and semi-formal letter should be strictly standard.
