Types of Switzerland Student Visas -
There are mainly two types of student visas in Switzerland -
The Schengen ‘C’ Visa
This type of visa allows the student to stay in Switzerland for up to 90 days. This type of visa is for students who want to visit the country for a short stay on account of seminars, summer schools or language schools, short courses, etc.
The National ‘D’ Visa
This type of visa is a long term study visa. Students who plan to study in Switzerland full time for more than 90 days have to apply for this visa. Under this category, International Students are granted a Schengen visa for 1 year with an extension of up to 6 months to find a job. With this type of visa, International students can work part-time for up to 15 hours per week.
Process to apply for Switzerland Student Visa
Once you get the acceptance letter from the Swiss university you applied to; you will have to schedule an appointment at the Swiss Embassy or Consulate. The processing time for the visa is about 8 to 10 weeks. So, make sure that you set the appointment at least 6 months before the start date of your course.

Within 90 days of your arrival in Switzerland, you will have to apply for your residence permit at the cantonal migration office. Documents required for the residence permit are your ID, your Swiss visa, and proof of your Swiss residence.
