NICHOLLS STATE UNIVERSITY

The Nicholls State University may be found in Thibodaux, Louisiana. It is a public university. Nicholls is a constituent institution of the University of Louisiana System and was established in 1948. The university was once known as Francis T. Nicholls Junior College, and it was named after Francis T. Nicholls, who served as a member of the Louisiana Supreme Court and as a former governor of Louisiana. The campus, which encompasses a land area of 287 acres (1.16 km2) and fronts on Bayou Lafourche, was formerly a part of the Acadia Plantation and is located around 50 miles (80 km) southwest of New Orleans and 60 miles (97 km) southeast of Baton Rouge. Elkins Hall, which was finished in 1948 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is the institution's oldest building. Acadiana is the region in where Nicholls can be found. In addition to this, it is located inside the physical boundaries of the Mississippi River Delta and is in close proximity to the Mississippi River, its tributaries, the marshes of Louisiana, and the Gulf of Mexico.
