The Paul M. Hebert Law Center is a public law school located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It is also commonly referred to as "LSU Law." It is situated on the primary campus of Louisiana State University, which makes it a component of the Louisiana State University System. Because Louisiana is a state governed by civil law, as opposed to its 49 sister states that are governed by common law, the curriculum in Louisiana includes both common law and civil law courses, and the number of required credit hours for graduation, 94, is the highest of any state in the United States. The Juris Doctor, or J.D., is the standard first degree awarded by American law schools. In the fall of 2002, the LSU Law Center became the only law school in the United States and only one of two law schools in the Western Hemisphere to offer a programme of study that leads to the simultaneous conferring of a J.D. and a D.C.L. (Diploma in Comparative Law), which recognises the training its students receive in both the common law and the civil law. This Before holding a vote in April 2015 to become an academic unit of Louisiana State University, the Paul M. Hebert Law Center operated as an independent institution of higher education. Its designation as a Law Center, rather than a Law School, derives not only from the fact that it was formerly an independent campus but also from the fact that it has centralised on its campus a number of J.D. and post-J.D. programmes, foreign and graduate programmes, including European programmes at the Jean Moulin University Lyon 3 School of Law, France, and the University of Louvain, Belgium, and the direction of the Louisiana Law Institute and the Louisiana Judicial College, among other initiatives According to the disclosures that the school was required to make to the ABA in 2017, 81.3% of the Class of 2017 obtained full-time, long-term employment that required bar passage nine months after graduation. This percentage does not include solo practitioners.
