VIRGINIA STATE UNIVERSITY

Ettrick, Virginia is home to Virginia State University, also known simply as VSU or Virginia State. It is a public, historically black, land-grant university. After its establishment on March 6, 1882, Virginia State University became the first institution of higher education in the United States to provide black Americans with complete financial assistance from the state over a period of four years. The Thurgood Marshall College Fund counts the university as one of its affiliated institutions.
