Hollins University is a non-public institution of higher education located in Hollins, Virginia. It is one of the oldest institutions of higher education for women in the United States and was established in 1842 in the historic village of Botetourt Springs under the name Valley Union Seminary. About 800 undergraduates and graduate students are now enrolled at Hollins. The undergraduate programmes of Virginia's first authorised women's college are restricted to female students alone. Men only are allowed to participate in the graduate-level programmes. Annie Dillard, Natasha Trethewey, and Henry S. Taylor are just a few of the authors who have graduated from Hollins' writing programmes and gone on to win the Pulitzer Prize. Hollins is well-known for both its undergraduate and graduate writing programmes. UC-first Berkeley's tenured female physicist was Mary Garber, who was also a pioneering sportswriter. [5] Kiran Desai, who won the Man Booker Prize in 2006, was the first renowned female physicist to graduate from UC-Berkeley (and a principal contributor to theories for detecting the Higgs boson) Mary K.
