In the heart of Central South Carolina sits the campus of Southern Wesleyan University, a private Christian university. In 1906, it was established by the group that would later become the Wesleyan Church. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges has granted this educational establishment the authority to confer associate's, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees to its students. The university provides approximately 35 different majors for undergraduate students to choose from. Additionally, the university provides graduate and doctoral degrees in the fields of business and education. The university has a student body of approximately 1,600 people. At the primary campus located in Central, South Carolina, there are currently enrolled more than 800 first-year students. In addition, there are programmes available at all levels, including undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral, that can be completed entirely online. It is a member of both the National Christian College Athletic Association and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), both of which are divisions of the National Sports Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The university fields a total of 18 intercollegiate athletic teams (NCCAA). Since 2007, the athletic teams of the university have won 17 national championship titles in competitions held by the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA). These titles include victories in the following sports: men's baseball, women's basketball, men's soccer, individual men's golf, women's indoor track and field events, men's outdoor track and field events, and women's indoor track and field events.
