COASTAL CAROLINA UNIVERSITY

Conway, South Carolina, which is part of the Myrtle Beach metropolitan region, is home to the public institution known as Coastal Carolina University (CCU or Coastal). It was established in 1954, and in 1993 it became a stand-alone university. As a national sea-grant university, CCU controls a portion of Waties Island, a barrier island in the Atlantic that is used for both instruction and research. The Horry County Schools Scholars Academy, a high school for talented students, is located on the campus as well.
