The town of Anderson, South Carolina is home to the private university known as Anderson University. About 78 different fields of research are covered by its undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate degree programmes. Both the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the South Carolina Baptist Convention have given Anderson University their seal of approval as a legitimate educational institution. Athletics at Anderson are governed by the NCAA's Division II, and the school is a constituent of the South Atlantic Conference. Since 2006, the number of students enrolled at Anderson University has increased by a factor of more than two, making it the nineteenth fastest-growing private master's university in the United States. It was originally created in 1848 as Johnson University by local Baptist leaders, but in 1911 it was reestablished as Anderson College. Anderson College is the successor to Johnson University. It wasn't until 1931 that Anderson College opened its doors to both sexes; in 2006, it was renamed Anderson University to reflect its new status as a co-educational institution. The South Carolina School of the Arts, Clamp Divinity School, Arts and Sciences, Business, Christian Studies, Education, Health Professions, Interior Design, and Public Service & Public Administration are the nine separate colleges and schools that make up the institution. Anderson made the announcement that a new college of engineering had been established in July of the year 2020. In the event that it receives the necessary accrediting approvals, it will open its doors to its first class of students in the fall of 2021 and offer bachelor's degree programmes in both mechanical and electrical engineering.
