William & Mary, also known simply as W&M, is the abbreviation for The College of William & Mary, which is a public research institution located in Williamsburg, Virginia. Its actual name is The College of William and Mary in Virginia. It is the second-oldest school of higher education in the United States, having been founded in 1693 by letters patent issued by King William III and Queen Mary II. It is also the ninth-oldest institution of its kind in the English-speaking world.
