UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE MARTIN

The University of Tennessee (UT) is a public college and research institution that has been around since 1794. Prior to receiving its current name, this university was first known as the Bount College in 1794, East Tennessee College in 1807, and East Tennessee University in 1840. The Morrill Act of 1862 allowed the state to subsidise the university's reopening in 1869 after it had been closed during the Civil War. African-American students were first admitted to the university in 1952, after which women began receiving temporary admission in 1892. Numerous reputable institutions have accredited it, including the Universities Research Association, the Oak Ridge Association University, and the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities. The University of Tennessee is a multi-campus institution having campuses in Knoxville, Martin, the Health Science Center, and Chattanooga, among other places. The University of Tennessee Martin has six residence halls where students can stay while they are on campus. Unless they are exempt, all enrolled students who have less than 45 completed credits prior to the start of classes must live on campus.Apartment-style living is available at University Village Phase I, University Village Phase II, and University Courts Apartments, which feature fully furnished rooms with the necessities. Living learning communities with common interests and experiences can be found in Cooper Hall. The other residences are coed housing developments.
