ALABAMA A&M UNIVERSITY

In Normal, Alabama, Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University (Alabama A&M) is a public historically black land-grant university. It began as a regular school in 1875 and was given its current name in 1969. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools has approved AAMU as a member school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. The Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University Historic District, commonly known as the Normal Hill College Historic District, is home to 28 buildings and four structures on the National Register of Historic Places.
