UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA WILMINGTON

In the city of Wilmington, North Carolina, you'll find the public research university known as the University of North Carolina Wilmington. It is a component of the University of North Carolina System and annually welcomes 17,499 students to study at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. It is categorised as an R2 university, which stands for "Doctoral Universities - High Research Activity." When it first opened its doors on September 4, 1947, Wilmington Institution was a junior college that catered primarily to military service members who had served in World War II. As a result of legislation passed by the North Carolina General Assembly in 1963, the institution of higher learning transitioned into a four-year liberal arts college. The college upgraded to the status of a university in 1969 and received its current name, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Today, the university consists of three campuses: the main campus is located in Wilmington, North Carolina; an extension campus is located in Jacksonville, North Carolina; and the Center for Marine Science is located close to Myrtle Grove.
