TEXAS STATE UNIVERSITY

In San Marcos, Texas, there is a public research institution called Texas State University. The institution has expanded to become the second-largest in the Greater Austin metropolitan region and the fifth-largest in the state of Texas since its founding in 1899. Texas State University maintained a trend of enrollment expansion over several years, reaching a record enrollment of 38,808 students in the 2016 fall semester. The university's ten colleges offer more than 200 different degree programs. The State of Texas designates Texas State as an emerging research university and one of the "R2: Doctoral Universities - High Research Activity" institutions. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools has granted accreditation to the university (SACS). Texas State is one of the top universities for producing Fulbright Scholars because faculty from the various colleges have routinely been awarded Fulbright Scholarships. Lyndon B. Johnson, the 36th president of the United States, received his diploma from Texas State University in 1930, making it the only college or university in Texas to boast such a distinction.
