HOWARD PAYNE UNIVERSITY

Howard Payne University is a Brownwood, Texas-based private Baptist university. It is a member of the Texas Baptist General Convention. Reverend Noah T. Byers and Dr. John David Robnett founded Howard Payne College in 1889. Edward Howard Payne, who was Robnett's brother-in-law, was the institution's first major patron. NCAA Division III football, baseball, softball, women's volleyball, men's and women's soccer, basketball, and tennis are among the athletic programmes. The HPU mascot is "Buzzsaw," a yellow jacket. In addition, the institution operates extension centres in New Braunfels, Texas, and El Paso, Texas.
