Southern Methodist University (SMU) has a satellite campus in Taos County, New Mexico. The Methodist Episcopal Church, South and Dallas civic leaders formed SMU on April 17, 1911. It's nonsectarian and accepts students of all faiths. "R-2: Doctoral Universities – High Research Activity" As of fall 2020, SMU had 12,373 students, including 6,827 undergraduates and 5,546 postgraduates.
