ABOUT
Rice University, sometimes known as William Marsh Rice University, is a private institution of higher learning located in Houston, Texas. It is located on a site that spans 300 acres and is situated adjacent to the Texas Medical Center and the Houston Museum District. Rice University, which was founded in 1912 following the assassination of its namesake William Marsh Rice, is a research university with an emphasis on undergraduate education. The school places a strong emphasis on education, as seen by the low number of students enrolled and the 6:1 student-to-faculty ratio. With a total of $156 million in funding for sponsored research in 2019, the university maintains a very high level of research activity. Research in artificial hearts, structural chemical analysis, signal processing, space science, and nanotechnology are just few of the fields that Rice University is known for its applied science programmes in. According to Times Higher Education's global rankings in the field of materials science research in 2010, it came in first place (THE). Since 1985, Rice University has been a part of the Association of American Universities, where it holds a place in the "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity" category of universities. Eleven residential colleges and eight schools of academic study make up the structure of the university. The Wiess School of Natural Sciences, the George R. Brown School of Engineering, the School of Social Sciences, the School of Architecture, the Shepherd School of Music, and the School of Humanities are among the schools that make up the university. Rice's undergraduate curriculum provides students with the opportunity to pursue more than one degree at once, and they can choose from more than fifty different majors and twenty-five different minors. Both the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business and the Susanne M. Glasscock School of Continuing Studies provide students with the opportunity to participate in supplementary graduate-level programmes. Rice students are required to abide by the rigorous Honor Code, which is policed by an Honor Council that is administered entirely by Rice students. Rice University is a member of Conference USA and competes in 14 different NCAA Division I varsity sports. Rice frequently faces off against the University of Houston, which is its cross-town rival. There is a wide range of sports available for participation in both intramural and club competitions, including water polo, jiu jitsu, and crew. There are more than a dozen Rhodes Scholars and more than a dozen Marshall Scholars among the graduates of this university. Due to the tight ties that exist between the institution and NASA, it has been responsible for the education of a sizeable number of astronauts and space scientists. In the world of business, Rice University alumni have gone on to become chief executive officers, founders of Fortune 500 companies, and even three billionaires. In the world of politics, Rice University alumni have gone on to become congressmen, governors, cabinet secretaries, judges, and mayors. [quantify] Two former students have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
