Amberton University is a private university in Garland, Texas, that adheres to the Evangelical Christian faith. It first opened its doors in 1971 as an extension campus of Abilene Christian University and remained there until 1982. Its first home was in Mesquite, Texas, but in 1974 it relocated to Garland. When the school received accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1981, plans were initiated for its separation into an independent institution. At the same time, the school became known as Amber University in 1982, and the "tonne" was added to its name in 2001. In 2002, the school was officially recognised as an independent university. In the year 2006, a campus extension was inaugurated in Frisco, Texas.
