ABOUT
Public Lake Superior State University is located in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. It is also known by the vernacular names Lake State, Lake Superior State, Soo Tech, and LSSU. With little under 2,000 students enrolled, it is the smallest public institution in Michigan. Due to its proximity to the Canadian border and its ties with its international neighbour, which includes the twin city of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, LSSU has a sizable Canadian student population. The Canadian and American flags are displayed on the campus of LSSU as a symbol of its special circumstance. Fisheries and wildlife management, engineering, chemistry and environmental sciences, teacher preparation, nursing, geology, business management, fire science, and criminal justice are just a few of the academic fields that LSSU is renowned for. Students also pursue degrees in law, forensic sciences, English and creative writing, and recreation management. Along with Central Michigan University, it is one of the two universities in Michigan that provides an environmental health accredited curriculum (EHAC). A master of arts in curriculum and teaching, as well as other certificates, are also offered by Lake Superior State University, which focuses primarily on bachelor's and associate's degrees. In Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, the institution also collaborates on programmes with Sault College and Algoma University. In the northern Michigan cities of Gaylord, Escanaba, Petoskey, and St. Helen, LSSU operates regional centres. In the city of Dearborn in southeast Michigan, a centre just opened. It is one of three public colleges in Michigan that doubles as a community college.
