Berrien Springs, Michigan is home to Andrews University, a Seventh-day Adventist institution of higher learning that is also private. The Seventh-day Adventist school system is the second largest Christian school system in the world, and Battle Creek College, which was established in 1874, is the flagship university of the Seventh-day Adventist school system. Battle Creek College was the first institution of higher education to be established by Seventh-day Adventists. There are eight schools or colleges that make up the institution, and between them they provide a total of 130 undergraduate majors and 70 graduate majors.
