FERRIS STATE UNIVERSITY

The primary campus of the public university known as Ferris State University, commonly referred to simply as Ferris, is located in Big Rapids, Michigan. Woodbridge N. Ferris, an educator originally from Tioga County, New York, established it in 1884 as the Big Rapids Industrial School. He went on to serve as governor of the state of Michigan and, after that, as a senator in the United States Senate, where he remained until his death in 1928. Ferris was an educator. The institution opened its doors to female students beginning with the very first group of high school seniors it ever graduated. Additionally, it is the only public institution in the state of Michigan that was established by a single person. There are currently 10,361 students attending Ferris University either on its main campus, at one of the 19 off-campus facilities located across the state, or online. This makes Ferris the tenth largest university in the state. There are eight academic colleges that offer degrees ranging from two years to four years, and there are six academic institutions that offer graduate degrees. A transdisciplinary doctorate of education in community college leadership is one of the degrees that may be earned by students at Ferris University. Other degrees that can be earned at Ferris include professional doctorates in optometry and pharmacy.
