BELMONT UNIVERSITY

Nashville, Tennessee's Belmont University is a private Christian university. The college, which was renamed Belmont College in 1951, is a descendant of Belmont Women's College, which was established in 1890 by two schoolteachers, Ida Hood and Susan Heron. In 1991, it was renamed Belmont University. Approximately 8,400 students from 28 countries and every state are now enrolled at Belmont. The final presidential debate of the 2020 election cycle was held at the university. Despite severing connections with the Tennessee Baptist Convention in 2007, the university still places a strong emphasis on its Christian identity.
