UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN COLORADO

Greeley, Colorado is home to a public educational institution known as the University of Northern Colorado (UNC).  It was originally established in 1889 as the State Normal School of Colorado, therefore the university has a strong tradition of providing training for educators. The first time the institution's name was officially changed was on February 16, 1935, when it became Colorado State College of Education at Greeley. The second time was on February 11, 1957, when it became Colorado State College, and the third time was on May 1, 1970, when it became its current name. There are approximately 10,000 students split over six different colleges. Loveland, Denver/Aurora, and Colorado Springs are the three locations of the university's extended campus. There are 19 different athletic teams at UNC, all of which compete in NCAA Division I.
