COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES

Informally referred to as Mines, the Colorado School of Mines is a public research institution that was established in 1874 in the city of Golden, Colorado. Degrees in engineering, physics, and mathematics, with an emphasis on energy and the environment, are available at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at this educational institution. Mines only offers major degrees in the subjects of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), with the exception of economics. However, Mines also offer minor degrees in the humanities, arts, and social sciences. The educational institution had a total of 6,607 students registered for the Fall 2019 semester, with 5,155 students participating in undergraduate programmes and 1,452 students participating in graduate programmes. Even though the institution has welcomed both males and females since it was first established, the majority of its students are still men (69.2% as of the Fall 2020 semester). The university was ranked first in the world for mineral and mining engineering in each and every version of the QS World University Rankings that were published between 2016 and 2020. It falls under the category of "R1: Doctoral Universities - Very high research activity.
