Grayson, Kentucky is home to Kentucky Christian University (KCU), a private Christian institution of higher education. J. W. Lusby and J. O. Snodgrass laid the groundwork for what would later become known as Christian Normal Institute on December 1st, 1919. Its offerings included a high school, a junior college, as well as a training programme for public school teachers. This institution was known as a "normal school." At the beginning of the 1920s, the school turned its focus to preparing students for careers in the Christian ministry. The Sack School of Bible and Ministry, the School of Business, the Keeran School of Education, the School of Distance and General Education, the Yancey School of Nursing, and the School of Social Work and Human Services are the six schools within the institution that each offer degree programmes. KCU has been granted permission to confer both bachelor's and master's degrees as a result of its accreditation by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Professional accreditation is granted to all programmes, including those leading to professional licence (such as nursing, social work, and teacher education). The KCU experience is not complete without participating in the mandatory chapel services held twice a week. These services help to foster a feeling of community on campus. The university is also well-known for the prominence of their worship leaders, their Christian nursing programme, and their athletic programmes (including football, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball, archery, softball, baseball, cheerleading, men's and women's golf, bass fishing, and cross country/track and field).
