FRIENDS UNIVERSITY

Friends University is located in Wichita, Kansas, in the United States, and it is a private, non-denominational Christian university. It was established in the year 1898. The primary structure was constructed in 1886 for Garfield University; however, it was given to the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in 1898 by James Davis, a businessman from St. Louis. In the 1930s, control of the school was transferred to an independent board of trustees, and the Mid-America Yearly Meeting of Friends was given a seat on the board during this time. It functions in the modern day with "an friendly but separate connection with the evangelical branch of the Society of Friends," according to its mission statement.
