Located in Fort Valley, Georgia, Fort Valley State University (FVSU, formerly known as Fort Valley State College and Fort Valley Normal and Industrial School) is a state land-grant historically black university. It is a member institution of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund in addition to being a component of the University System of Georgia. Over 2,500 students are currently enrolled in Fort Valley State University, which was established as the state's land-grant university in 1890. Roughly nine in ten of the student body's individuals identify as having African-American ancestry. The typical age of a student enrolling in an undergraduate programme is 24, whereas the typical age of a graduate student is 33. Roughly one-third of the students choose to make the campus their primary residence, and approximately 85% of the students attend classes full-time. The community of Fort Valley, which sits within Peach County and was the birthplace of the peach industry in the state, is where the university is found. In terms of total land area, the campus encompasses 1,365 acres (5.52 km2), making it the second-largest public university in Georgia.
