Antioch University is a non-profit institution of higher education that operates both on-campus and online degree and certificate programmes. Antioch College was established in 1852, and Horace Mann, a politician, abolitionist, and education reformer, served as the institution's first president. Antioch College became Antioch University in 1977 to better reflect the institution's expansion across the United States into a wide variety of graduate education programmes. In addition to its online division and the Graduate School of Leadership and Change, it presently maintains a total of four campuses, which are spread throughout three different states. The Higher Learning Commission has granted regional accreditation to each and every site that makes up the university. Campuses can be found in the cities of Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Keene, and Seattle in the states of California, New Hampshire, and Washington, respectively. In addition, Antioch University is home to two programmes that are offered across the entire university. These programmes are the Graduate School of Leadership and Change[4] and Antioch University Online. In 2008, Antioch University put a stop to the activities of Antioch College. The following year, in 2009, Antioch University sold the campus as well as a licence to use the name "Antioch College" to a new and separate nonprofit organisation. Since that time, there has been no connection between the college and the university.
Antioch University is not ranked in the U.S. News & World Report's Best Colleges rankings. However, it is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs in the liberal arts, education, and social justice.
