ABOUT

University of the Ozarks has been around since 1834, which makes it the oldest college in Arkansas and one of the oldest colleges west of the Mississippi River. Cumberland Presbyterians started it in 1834 as Cane Hill School in Cane Hill, Arkansas, in Washington County. It later changed its name to Cane Hill College. [3] In September 1891, Arkansas Cumberland College, which took over from it, opened in Clarksville. In 1920, the school's name was changed to "College of the Ozarks." In 1875, the university was the first college or university in Arkansas to let women enrol. In 1946, the state's first pharmacy school was at the university.
