In the Czech Republic's city of Liberec, there is a university called the Technical University of Liberec. Over the course of its more than 60-year history, the university has seen significant change. Its first classrooms were housed in the attics of the F. X. Alda Grammar School and it was formerly known as the Institute of Mechanical Engineering in Liberec. These later functioned as teacher accommodations, and it was here that the earliest designs and concepts for the future structure and direction of the college emerged. On October 1, 1953, the first 259 students were admitted. Currently, the institution has one specialised institute and seven faculties: Faculty of Mechatronics, Informatics and Inter-Disciplinary Studies, Faculty of Health Studies, Institute for Nanomaterials, Advanced Technologies and Innovation, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Textile Engineering, Faculty of Science-Humanities and Education, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Arts and Architecture.
