In Dublin, Ireland, one of the most prestigious third-level institutions was called Dublin Institute of Technology. On the first of January 2019, the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) was dissolved, and on that same day, its activities were transferred to the Technological University of Dublin, which is now known as TU Dublin City Campus. In 1887, the first technical education institution in Ireland opened its doors. Since then, the institution has gone through a number of different legal and governance models, culminating in the attainment of autonomy in accordance with a statute passed in 1992. The Dublin Institute of Technology was praised in particular for its degree programmes in Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Engineering, Science, Marketing, Hospitality, Music, Optometry, Pharmaceuticals, Construction, Digital Media, and Journalism. According to the Times Higher Education's rankings in 2014, it was one of the top 100 university-level schools in the world that was less than 50 years old.
