The University of Göttingen has memberships in both the Coimbra Group of important European research universities and the U15 Group of significant German research universities. It was previously financed by the German Universities Excellence Initiative. There are now 13 faculties at the institution, which has about 31,600 students enrolled. The institution employs about 400 professors and 4,000 academic staff members, who are supported by over 7,000 technical and administrative personnel. Additionally, the university's research staff has helped develop the theories of mathematical aerodynamics and quantum physics.
