A public optometry school in New York City is called the State University of New York College of Optometry. It was founded in 1971 as a consequence of a New York legislative directive and is a part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. It is situated in what was formerly the Aeolian Building in midtown Manhattan, which was constructed in 1912 for the Aeolian Company, a manufacturer of pianos. It is the sole optometry school in New York and a hub for vision research.
