A private institution located in Brooklyn Heights, New York is known as St. Francis College (also known as St. Francis of Brooklyn or SFC). It was the first private school in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn and was established in 1859 by the Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn. At the time of its founding, the school was known as the St. Francis Academy. St. Francis College was originally founded in the City of Brooklyn as a religious school for boys only. Today, it is a tiny liberal arts college that features 19 academic departments and a total of 72 majors and minors for students to choose from.
