NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE UNIVERSITY

Bethesda, Maryland is home to the National Intelligence University (NIU), a research institution that holds a federal charter and was formerly known as the Defense Intelligence School, the Defense Intelligence College, the Joint Military Intelligence College, and the National Defense Intelligence College. The Intelligence Community (IC) of the United States has designated the National Intelligence University (NIU) as its institution for higher learning in fields of study that are essential to the intelligence profession and to national security. NIU prepares students for senior positions in the Intelligence Community (IC) and in the larger national security enterprise by conferring undergraduate and graduate degrees, as well as a graduate certificate and prestigious research fellowships. Since it first opened its doors in 1963, the university has welcomed more than 80,000 civilian and military students. NIU's primary campus is now located at the Intelligence Community Campus in Bethesda (ICC-B), having moved from its previous location at the headquarters of the Defense Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C. NIU also has four other campuses located in different parts of the world.
