The National Defense University (NDU) is a higher education institution in the United States that is supported financially by the Department of Defense. Its mission is to facilitate the education, training, and professional development of national security leaders at the highest level. As a chairman's Controlled Activity, the NDU functions under the direction of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS), and Lieutenant General Michael T. Plehn, of the United States Air Force, serves as the organization's president. It can be found in Washington, District of Columbia, on the grounds of Fort Lesley J. McNair.
