Sweden's Stockholm metropolitan region includes Solna, home to the Karolinska Institute, a medical university with a strong focus on research. The Karolinska Institute consistently ranks among the top medical schools in the world; in 2021, it was ranked sixth globally for medicine. The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine is presented by the Nobel Assembly at the Karolinska Institute. Fifty university academics from diverse medical specialties are in attendance. Ole Petter Ottersen assumed his position as rector of the Karolinska Institute in August 2017.
