Fielding Graduate University is a private university in Santa Barbara, California that offers graduate-level education. It was formerly known as Fielding Graduate Institute and The Fielding Institute. Its postgraduate and doctoral programmes are generally focused in the fields of psychology, education, and organisational studies, and they are delivered mostly through online learning platforms. In 1974, Frederic M. Hudson, Hallock Hoffman, and Renata Tesch laid the groundwork for what would become Fielding Graduate University. They intended Fielding to be a graduate school for mid-career professionals that were lacking from the offerings of traditional colleges, and they structured Fielding accordingly.
