Located in San Bernardino, California, the California State University, San Bernardino, also known as Cal State San Bernardino or CSUSB, is a public research university. It is one of the 23 general campuses that make up the California State University system, and it was established in 1965. The main campus covers an area of 441 acres (178 ha) and is located in the University District of San Bernardino. In 1986, a branch campus covering 40 acres (16 ha) was established in Palm Desert, California. The number of students enrolled at Cal State San Bernardino in the fall of 2020 was 19,404. It had 310 full-time faculty members as of the fall of 2018, of which 220 (or 71% of the total) were on the tenure track. In addition to granting Bachelor's degrees in 123 different programmes, Master's degrees in 61 different programmes, two Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degrees in Education Leadership (with a Community College specialisation and a K–12 specialisation), and 23 different teaching credentials, the university is recognised as having a high level of research activity. The sports teams of CSUSB are collectively referred to as the Coyotes, and they compete in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, which is a part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division II. The campus, which is located in the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains, gave rise to the nick name "Coyote Country" because of the presence of the coyotes in the surrounding area. A national championship, thirteen CCAA championships, eight West Region championships, and a national championship have all been won by the CSUSB women's volleyball team. After winning the California Collegiate Athletic Association championship for the first time, the university's men's soccer team advanced all the way to the national semi-finals of NCAA Division II.
