De Montfort is a public university in Leicester, England. It was established in 1870 and became a degree-awarding body in 1992 through the Further and Higher Education Act. It has nearly 27,000 full—and part-time students and 3,240 staff members.

#History

The university was originally founded as the Leicester School of Art in 1870. In 1967, Pink Floyd played at the Students Union. It came to be known as De Montfort University in 1992. The award-winning Queen’s Building was opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1993. In 2017, the university received Gold, which is the highest ranking in the Teaching Excellence Framework. In 2018 it was chosen to support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 16. It will complete 150 years in 2020.

#International Students

 Every year, more than 2,700 International students from across 130+ countries choose De Montfort University for their higher studies. For Indian students planning to study undergraduate courses at the university, a minimum average of 65% is required in the four best subjects (excluding Hindi) in 12th grade. 10th grade results in English and Math may also be checked. Entry in the 2nd and the 3rd year may be possible, provided the students give the university all the required documents like the course, grades, and syllabus. Students aiming for postgraduate courses should have a bachelor’s degree with a score of 50- 60%. Certain courses have various other criteria like work experience, portfolio, etc.

#Scholarships

 

Scholarships offered to international students wanting to take up an undergraduate course are the DMU Global High Flyers Scholarship, DMU Sports Scholarship and Article 26 Scholarship. Various other bursaries are also offered.

Scholarships for postgraduate students include the DMU Sport Scholarship and Postgraduate Alumni Scholarship.  Various other sources of funding are also available.

#Career Prospects

97.3% of graduates from DMU are either into work or studying further within six months of graduating.  Students of DMU have gotten jobs at Calvin Klein, BMW, HSBC, The House of Commons, etc.
