San Diego, California is home to a prestigious private Catholic research institution known as the University of San Diego (USD). Originally established in July 1949 as the autonomous San Diego College for Women and San Diego University (comprising the College for Men and School of Law), the two educational establishments eventually combined into a single entity in 1972. Since that time, the university has expanded to include a total of nine different undergraduate and graduate schools. These schools are as follows: the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering, the Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies, the Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science, the School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES), the Knauss School of Business, and the Division of Professional and Continuing Education. The University of San Diego (USD) has around 9,073 students enrolled in its undergraduate, graduate, paralegal, and legal programmes. USD offers 89 undergraduate and graduate degrees.
