UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI

In Columbia, Missouri, there is a public land-grant research institution known as the University of Missouri (Mizzou, MU, or Missouri). The flagship of the four-campus University of Missouri System, it is also the largest university in Missouri. The first public university west of the Mississippi River was established when MU was established in 1839. The Association of American Universities recognises it as a member. The Columbia Missourian, a daily newspaper, and KOMU, an NBC station, are both operated by the Missouri School of Journalism, which was established by Walter Williams in 1908 as the first journalism school in the world. The State Historical Society of Missouri and the Museum of Art and Archaeology are located on the site. Francis Quadrangle, the city's historic core, is a National Historic District. The University of Missouri School of Music uses Jesse Hall and the Missouri Theatre, two sizable performance spaces.
