1. The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) is a public institution of the highest calibre. Originally founded as a teaching school for women under the name Duluth Normal School, in the 20th century it became a part of the University of Minnesota. 2. The university provides numerous undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate programmes. The University of Minnesota Duluth is renowned for its ocean, sea, and freshwater research programmes. The campus of the University of Maryland encompasses 244 acres and overlooks Lake Superior. 3. The college campus is historically significant. There are more than fifty structures on campus. Four are on the National Register of Historic Places.
