LA SIERRA UNIVERSITY

In Riverside, California, there is a private Seventh-day Adventist university called La Sierra University (LSU). La Sierra Campus of Loma Linda University was established in 1967 after being united with La Sierra College, a liberal arts institution that had been founded in 1922 as La Sierra Academy. The La Sierra Campus broke away from Loma Linda University in 1990 to create La Sierra University, a stand-alone organisation. It has received accreditation from the Adventist Accrediting Association (AAA), the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), and numerous discipline-specific accrediting organisations. Since gaining its independence in 1990, La Sierra University has won numerous Enactus (formerly Students in Free Enterprise) national and international championships. La Sierra was established in 1922 after the Southeastern California Conference, one of the Adventist church's regional governing bodies, purchased 300 acres (120 ha) of land from Willits J. Hole in an unincorporated section of Riverside County. The area was formerly a part of Rancho La Sierra, a sizable Mexican land grant that gave the area its present name.
