KUTZTOWN UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA

The public Kutztown University of Pennsylvania (often known as KU) is located in Kutztown, Pennsylvania. It is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE). Kutztown University was founded in 1866 as the Keystone Normal School, with a focus on teacher education, and was located out of what is now known as the Old Main Building. In 1928, the name of the institution was changed to Kutztown State Teachers College. The institution eventually broadened its offerings outside of the classroom, earning the names Kutztown State College in 1960 and, finally, Kutztown University of Pennsylvania in 1983, around 20 years later. Kutztown University presently provides courses in the liberal arts and sciences, the visual and performing arts, business, education, and some doctoral studies through its four undergraduate colleges and graduate programmes. Within the NCAA Division II and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, eight intercollegiate men's sports and thirteen intercollegiate women's sports are played (PSAC). The majority of the university's population resides in Kutztown University, a census-designated place in Maxatawny Township just outside the borough of Kutztown. 2,918 people called the area home as of the 2010 Census.
