CONCORD UNIVERSITY

Athens, West Virginia is home to Concord University, a public institution of higher education. On February 28, 1872, the West Virginia Legislature approved "an Act to locate a Branch State Normal School, in the town of Concord Church, in the County of Mercer," which led to the establishment of the school. The Concord Normal School was established by former soldiers who had served for both the Union and the Confederacy during the American Civil War. The school got its name from the goal of "harmony and beautiful company." It is famous for both its beautiful campus, which has been given the nickname "The Campus Beautiful," and its gorgeous location on a hill that looks out over the mountains in the surrounding area. At addition, the institution runs a centre and offers classes in Beckley, which is located in Raleigh County in the state of West Virginia.
